Saint Peregrine practiced a penance of standing instead of sitting whenever possible. At age 60, he was diagnosed with cancer in his leg. The night before his leg was to be amputated, Peregrine dragged himself before the crucifix and begged the Lord to heal him. Falling into a deep, trance-like sleep, Peregrine saw Jesus lean down from the cross to touch his leg. He awoke the following morning to find his sores completely healed and his cancer cured.
Saint Peregrine is recognized today as the patron of those who suffer from cancer. Feast day ~~ May 4th
